Gornergrad with spactacular Matterhorn view - Photographer Andrea Klimenko

Spectacular. Amazing. Breathtaking. That’s the only way to describe our unforgettable day trip to the Matterhorn — one of Switzerland’s most iconic natural wonders.

Updated on 8th of July 2025

We began our adventure in the quiet village of Täsch, where we left our car at one of the convenient parking facilities. From there, we took the shuttle train to Zermatt, a picturesque alpine town that’s famously car-free. The short ride itself felt like the beginning of something magical, as mountain peaks slowly revealed themselves through the windows.

Once in Zermatt, we were greeted by the breathtaking sight of the Matterhorn. Towering in the distance, sharp and majestic, it’s no wonder this peak has become a symbol of the Swiss Alps. The town itself is charming, with traditional chalets, boutique shops, and incredible views in every direction. (Tip: Grab a coffee and stroll through the town — every corner is postcard-worthy.)

Next, we boarded the Gornergrat Railway, one of Europe’s highest cogwheel trains. The journey took us up to the Gornergrat viewpoint, sitting at over 3,000 meters above sea level. The panoramic views are truly unforgettable: glaciers, rugged peaks, and of course, the Matterhorn itself standing proud.

As a photographer, I couldn’t help but imagine: What a location this would be for a wedding. The dramatic backdrop, the fresh mountain air, the sense of awe — it’s a once-in-a-lifetime setting for couples who dream of something a little different.
